Mumbai, May 5: A 22 years old woman named Zeba Ansari delivered a baby in the Emergency Medical Room (EMR) also popularly known as 'One Rupee Clinic' of the Thane railway station. The pregnant woman was travelling from Titwala to Rajawadi hospital on Friday evening with her husband and mother-in-law, however, before she could reach the hospital she went into labour.
Earlier too such emergency deliveries of women, who went to sudden labour pain while travelling in local train took place at the 'Emergency Medical Room set up at different railway stations. The doctors handled the first delivery at Ghatkopar station in July 2017, second such case was attended at Dadar station in October 2017, and now this, making it the third successful delivery, carried out by railway's emergency medical room doctors.
According to a news report in CNNNews18, who quoted a relative of the patient said, "The woman after visiting the hospital was returning back to her home, however, she started experiencing labour pains. Her Husband and mother-in-law decided to take her back to the hospital, but by the time they could reach the hospital her pain increased following which doctors of Emergency Medical Room attended her and took her to platform number four of Thane railway station with the help of Government Railway Police(GRP), where Ansari delivered her baby at around 12:15 am on Saturday."
Soon after the delivery, the mother and newborn baby were shifted to the nearby Thane Civil Hospital for further treatment.
After several accident cases been reported in Mumbai local trains, the ministry of railways has set up Emergency Medical Room (EMR), or ‘One Rupee Clinics’ to provide immediate medical assistance. It usually provides emergency help to rail accident victims and gives medical treatment to the general public. The best part of these clinics is that it only charge Re 1 per to the patients for their services. TheOne Rupee clinics are currently available at 12 stations, including Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Wadala Road and Mulund.
