Mumbai, June 2: The next on cards of Western Railways to end food woes on board is to provide fresh alphonso mangoes to commuters in Maharashtra. Passengers who wish to enjoy the 'king of fruits' on their journey can avail the same via 'Food-on-Track' mobile application developed by the Railways.

Self-help group Shree Mahalakshmi Swayam Sahayata Bachat Ghat, which is known for exporting top-quality mangoes, has partnered with Trapigo to deliver the alphonso mangoes on board. Trapigo is a start-up of IIT-IIM and NIFT graduates, with its own fleet of delivery boys.

The charge availed from the commuters will be Rs 470 per dozen of mangoes, along with a nominal Rs 15 delivery charge levied by Trapigo per order.

Apart from mangoes, Trapigo also offers to provide "hot food" from restaurants located at railway stations enroute. All a passenger needs to do is to select the food items from the menu available on the Food-on-Track app. The orders could also be placed alternatively via the Railway's official catering website - www.ecatering.irctc.co.in.

Apart from mangoes, the Railways is also planning to provide other seasonal fruits to passengers on board. It remains to be seen whether the new service becomes a hit among commuters.
