In a shocking ragging incident in West Bengal, a first-year student in Kolkata was allegedly ragged and stripped naked by the members of student body at St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College. The disgraceful event took place on May 29 when the victim went to the union room to enquire about the utilisation funds. While they were talking, reportedly, two outsiders interfered which led to a heated argument followed by the assault. In response to this outrageous episode, the West Bengal’s education minister, Partha Chatterjee on June 3 informed that “strict action” will be taken against those who found involved in the act.

The discussion turned into rage; the victim told media that the accused’s friends caught him from behind and removed his clothes. While he was stripped naked, the act was recorded and through the video it was discovered how the youth was harassed as he was running across the room begging for kindness. The victim informed News18, “I was in trauma for the last few days, but finally decided to lodge a police complaint yesterday after I saw my videos being shared with other students. I was shocked and decided to lodge a complaint.”

Chatterjee who received a written complaint about the matter told PTI, “If the allegations were found to be true in the inquiry report of the college, the government will show 'zero tolerance' to such misconduct.”

The first-year student is a member of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), unit of the college and later informed media that he was tortured by senior members if the student wings while he went to enquire about expenses in order to organize an upcoming college fest. TMCP state president Jaya Dutta further reported that she is looking into the matter and will speak about the incident with the college authorities to take necessary action against its members.
