Purulia, June 4: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Dulal Kumar, who was found hanging in West Bengal’s Purulia and alleged to be killed by TMC workers, has been said to have committed suicide. His postmortem report suggests suicide as the possible reason for his death. Purulia SP Akash Magharia was quoted as saying, “We received postmortem reports, which states “death due to asphyxia, hanging ante-mortem and suicidal ingestion. We are taking formal action.” However, the family of the deceased has refuted the postmortem reports. Kumar's father told ANI, “We are sure that he did not commit suicide, TMC workers killed him."

The alleged killings of BJP workers has created a tense situation in West Bengal. BJP has accused TMC of having murdered both its party workers. They alleged that the deaths were “political murders” carried out at the behest of the TMC. The BJP has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incidents that took place.

Earlier, Trilochan Mahato, a 20-year-old BJP worker, was found hanging from a power transmission tower near the fields in Dava village on Saturday. The police recovered a note near his body that read that the deceased was punished for working for the BJP during the recently held panchayat polls. BJP President Amit Shah condemned the incident as “shameful and inhuman” on his Twitter.

Amit Shah also expressed his grief for the bereaved family. Last month, Bengal saw large-scale violence in the recently held panchayat elections. At least 14 people had died in the poll-related violence.
