In wake of the bad weather conditions, Agra in Uttar Pradesh has been put on a-72-hour weather alert till Monday. It must be noted that Agra has witnessed two devastating storms in 20 days. More than 1,400 villages continue to remain without power supply, an official said.
Agra District Magistrate Gaurav Dayal said and issued a detailed advisory to manage any imminent disaster. This comes after a 132-kmph dust storm hit the city on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday bringing heavy showers and hailstorm that killed 44 people and destroyed properties worth in crores.
IMD described Wednesday’s storms as a ‘freak incident’ and said it was caused due to western disturbance-induced cyclonic circulation, high moisture brought by easterly winds and the recent spell of unusually high temperatures. “There is a high probability that winds will intensify in the next 48 hours in Rajasthan, which may lead to another dust storm. It will affect areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan border, especially Karauli and Dholpur,” IMD scientist Himanshu Sharma told PTI.
IMD states that there is a high probability that winds will intensify in the next 3 days in Rajasthan, which may lead to another dust storm. India’s weather monitoring agency added that heavy rain is "very likely" at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and south interior Karnataka today.
