Mumbai, January 23: The new Vashi creek bridge in Navi Mumbai will be partially shut for the public from February 1 to February 21, 2018 on account of maintenance work. The southbound carriageway of the bridge will be closed for expansion joint maintenance work for 20 days while the traffic will be diverted to the northbound carriageway. The Navi Mumbai traffic department in its notification on January 22, 2018 said that the diversion was announced for January 23-February 12 but has been shifted after the Public Works Department (PWD) postponed the work.

Nitin Pawar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) said that the PWD will work on the expansion joints of the Panvel-Mumbai lane, which will be shut for motorists. He further added saying that the diversion has been necessitated to prevent traffic snarls on the Sion-Panvel highway. "As the PWD authorities told us on Monday that they have postponed the work to February 1 till 21 due to administrative reasons, we have also postponed the traffic diversion," Pawar said.

Vashi Creek Bridge Notification

For the repair work to go on smoothly,  major vehicular diversion on the Vashi creek bridge between February 1 and February 21 have been announced by the Navi Mumbai traffic police. As per reports, all the vehicles going towards Mumbai from Navi Mumbai will have to use the Mumbai-Vashi lane, while those coming from Mumbai towards Navi Mumbai will be diverted to the old Vashi bridge.   Meanwhile, reports state that for all light vehicles going northward, out of Mumbai, the old creek bridge will be opened. As the old creek cannot handle heavy vehicles, they will be diverted towards the Eastern Express Highway, from where they can turn right towards the Airoli toll plaza.

As per details by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, the old bridge can be used only by four-wheelers and light motor vehicles, and emergency vehicles like ambulances and some buses. Efforts are being made by the traffic police department to make these 20 days as hassle-free as possible by putting up enough notifications and boards near the diversion points.
