Dehradun, July 2: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has ordered a suspension of SO Dhumakot and Assistant Regional Transport Officer on Monday over negligence, in connection with the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal district yesterday. Dilip Jawalkar has also been removed as Garhwal Commissioner. After the accident Pushpak Jyoti has also been removed as DIG Garhwal following bus accident The accident claimed 48 lives after the bus fell in a gorge in Nainidanda area. According to reports, Uttarakhand government will also take action against an aviation company that refused to fly its choppers for over three hours to rescue victims of the accident.
The 28-seater bus was going to Ramnagar from Bhaun when the accident took place. The driver lost control near the Guen Bridge on Pipli-Bhaun motorway in NainiDanda block, and the bus fell into the gorge. As per a survey by Uttarakhand police, Pauri Garhwal is one of the top three districts with the most number of accidents among hill districts of the state. The study also revealed that most of the accidents that occurred in hilly districts were because of the overspeeding.
The police also suspected that the yesterday’s accident could be caused due to over-speeding. According to the police, the driver might have lost control on the blind curve. Both the driver and the conductor of the bus died in the accident. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, 12 people survived in the accident, out of which seven were kids. Most of the victims belonged to Idiakot region in Pauri district.
