Dehradun, May 8: Due to bad climatic conditions in the hill state, Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat has been stuck Kedarnath following heavy snowfall in the area. Along with Rawat, Congress MP Pradeep Tamta and local MLA Manoj Rawat along with other Congress leaders are also stuck at the world famous pilgrim destination.

According to a recent tweet by ANI, Badrinath received fresh snowfall this morning where 2 inches of snow covered the area. Meanwhile, Hemkund received fresh snowfall too. It must be noted that despite the bad weather conditions, Badrinath Yatra is underway.  In wake of the bad weather conditions in several states of North India, about 13 states are under storm alert.

According to an IMD release, squalls and gusty winds are likely to hit many parts of India, including Delhi, till Friday even as the mountains of Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall. Weather officials have attributed the rain and thunderstorm to a western disturbance and cyclonic circulation that are likely to affect northwest India between May 6 and May 9. Due to dust storms, rains and thunderstorms in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, at least 120 people were killed, and more than 300 others injured.

On Monday, two pilgrims were injured as heavy rains accompanied by high-speed winds lashed Chamoli district of Uttarakhand today blowing away rooftops and uprooting trees. According to a report by PTI, the two pilgrims from Gujarat, who were eating at a roadside eatery, were injured when branches of a tree fell over them under the impact of a squall near Chetrapal village. Revenue department official S L Rangad said that they were rushed to a hospital nearby, he said.
