Dehradun, April 1: A bridge built over Assi Ganga river on Gangotri highway in hill state Uttarakhand collapsed on Sunday. Due to the sudden collapse, the traffic movement in the area has come to a halt and people have been reported stranded on both the sides of the long bridge. So far, ill now there was no information about anyone being injured in the incident.
The bridge connected Gangotri, Maneri and several other areas of the hill state. This bridge also serves an important linkage for pilgrims who travel to Badrinath to visit the holy shrine. As per reports, the 60-meter long bridge has over Assi Ganga river collapsed for the second time within three months. The last time, the bridge had collapsed on December 14, 2018. As per details by ANI, the bridge collapsed around 10:30 am on Sunday morning.
A close look at the picture by ANI shows that an overloaded truck was passing by when suddenly the bridge collapsed. The district administration and rescue teams rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. This is a developing story and further details are awaited.
As per reports, last year in December the bridge had collapsed after being constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in place of the main bridge, which was damaged during the 2013 Uttarakhand floods.
