Lucknow, April 20: The Uttar Pradesh Government on Friday withdrew 'Y' category security cover provided to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for his alleged involvement in the rape of a minor in Unnao last year. Kuldeep, the main accused in the Unnao rape case was taken into seven-day police custody last week. The victim, however, claimed that the UP police did not register an FIR against Sengar because he was a powerful politician.

Kuldeep was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 13 for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in Unnao. To recall, an FIR was lodged against Sengar on April 12 under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In all, three cases have been filed against the BJP legislator.

The first case, of rape, involves BJP MLA Sengar and Shashi Singh, the second accused the MLA’s brother and others of murdering the girl’s father when he was in judicial custody and the third is against the victim’s father, who was arrested under the arms act and put behind bars by police in Unnao.The victim has alleged that she was raped by the BJP MLA at his residence on June 4 last year. Her father was booked by the police for illegal possession of firearms and put in jail this April after her family filed a case against the BJP MLA.

Earlier this month, the victim and her family members tried to commit suicide outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The victim’s father was arrested by police on April 5 who later died in custody on April 9.
