Unnao Rape Case: BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh's Arrest Denied by UP Police; Says, Everyone is Free Until Proven Guilty!

Lucknow, April 12: The Uttar Pradesh police, on Thursday, in its press briefing, have said that rape-accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar will not be arrested as the charges against him aren’t proven. The Director-General of Police (DGP), OP Singh, said that everyone is free until proven guilty.

In its joint-press meet with Principal Secretary (Home), he further added, “The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and hence it would be their call to arrest him (Kuldeep Singh Sengar).”

The DGP further added, “The State Police will send the request for CBI’s investigation to the Centre, today itself. The CBI will probe fairly in the Unnao rape case.” Talking about his the status of his imminent arrest, OP Singh said, “Nobody is defending him (Kuldeep Singh Sengar), all we are saying is that we have to hear both sides. Now the case has been to CBI, they will decide on the arrest.”

Addressing the press, the DGP said that the BJP MLA (Kuldeep Singh Sengar) is currently free as the charges against him aren’t proven. We have registered the case, filed an FIR and it will now be investigated fair and square by the CBI.

Throwing light on government’s stand on the Unnao rape case, Principal Secretary (Home), Arvind Kumar said, “The government doesn’t want to save anyone. The victim didn’t mention rape in the first complaint out of fear. The victim had first sought an FIR in August last year.”

Earlier in the day, the Uttar Pradesh Police had registered an FIR against the rape-accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The state police had levied charges under sections 363, 366, 376, 506 and POCSO Act, confirmer Police SO Rajesh Singh.
