Lucknow, April 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a teenager in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, will continue to remain in custody as the POCSO (Prevention of Children Against Sexual Offences) court in Unnao extended his CBI remand on Friday.

As per the court's order, Sengar's custody has been extended by 7 days, which means he will remain in detention till at least April 27. The legislator from Unnao's Bangarmau constituency was held last week following immense public pressure.

Sengar, along with his brother and accomplices, is charged of raping a 17-year-old in June 2017. The victim was allegedly lured to his residence on pretext of assisting her in finding a job. Between June 9 to 13, the victim claims she was raped on multiple occasions.

The case drew media ire after the victim attempted to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Lucknow on April 7, citing the police inaction.

A day later, her father, who was under police custody under "fraudulent" arms act case was reported dead. Post-mortem report revealed he died of fatal injuries, particularly in the abdomen region, which was allegedly caused to by him Sengar's borther Atul Singh and his aides.

Atul and five other aides of the rape-accused BJP MLA have been held so far by the UP Police.

Earlier in the day, the Uttar Pradesh government had withdrawn the 'Y' category security cover of Sengar.

As per the charge sheet prepared by the UP police in the case, Sengar and his associates have been booked under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), apart from the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act.
