Wayanad, February 6: A 65-year-old woman was mauled to death by two pet dogs at Vythiri in the district, police said. Rajamma, a widow of Ambedkar colony in Vythiri was attacked by her neighbour's dogs around 9.30 AM when she was on her way to work along with few others, Vythiri they said.
Those accompanying her ran to safety leaving Rajamma behind as the dogs, of Rottweiler breed, came running towards them. The woman who suffered serious injuries on her head, hands and legs was rushed to Vythiri taluk hospital, police said.
Later she was referred to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, here where she succumbed to injuries in the afternoon, they said. A case under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals) and 304(a) (causing death by negligence) was registered against the owner of the dogs, Jose, they added.
