Jharkhand: Two People Lynched for Stealing Buffaloes in Godda District
Four arrests have been made into the case so far by the police and an FIR has also been registered for murder. According to the report in the Indian Express, a case of stealing buffaloes has also been registered against unidentified persons.
Ranchi, June 13: Two people were killed by villagers after they were allegedly caught stealing buffaloes from a village under Deodand police station area of Jharkhand's Godda district. The incident is reported to have taken place on Wednesday morning. Four arrests have been made into the case so far by the police and an FIR has also been registered for murder. According to the report in the Indian Express, a case of stealing buffaloes has also been registered against unidentified persons.
The police has added that those who were killed by the villagers "have had a history" of committing similar "cattle theft" in the past. The cattle theft took place in Bankatti village which falls on the border of Deoband and Sunder Pahari area in Godda. The police said that the victims were nabbed just when they were about to escape after stealing the buffaloes. The victims have been identified as Mumtaza Ansari and Charku Ansari and they belonged to the Taljhari village and Banjhi village respectively.
The bodies of the victims were taken for post-mortem and have been given back to the families, informed police. The Superintendent of Police of Godda district narrated that five people had come to the village and stole close to a dozen buffaloes but were spotted by the villagers after reaching about 3 kilometres from the village. The villagers attacked them and three out of the five people who had robbed the cattle managed to escape. The two who the villagers got hold of, were beaten badly which resulted in their death. The area where the incident took place is a Santhal tribal dominated area and the police said that force has been deployed to prevent future clashes or tension.
