Mumbai, June 1: Its been over ten days since the Tuticorin violence broke out and killed 13 people, still, the families of the grieved have not received their loved ones' bodies to mourn properly. A family who lost the lady of their house 41-year-old named Jhansi, a mother of four children has now decided not to accept her body until the Sterlite plant is shut-down completely. "It's been almost ten days since her death. Only after Sterlite shuts will we take the body", said her brother Raj Kumar to India Today.

On May 22, 2018, Tuticorin police opened fire against protestors who gathered to voice their demand to shut down the Sterlite plant over pollution concern. However, Jhansi who was merely a spectator and curious onlooker became a victim of the police firing. At Threspuram bridge where the violence erupted between police and protestors, she collapsed after a bullet pierced her skull, as reported.

Moreover, the families of the deceased are also dealing with another battle at Madrasa High Court. The seven bodies of the dead have been sent for re-postmortem after petitioners(families) alleged tampering of evidence and wanted a doctor of their choice to be part of autopsy team. After that, the court has mandated that a doctor from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) or Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) or Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) be part of the team. Besides, it has also ordered preservation of bodies of the remaining six victims. A forensic expert will also be part of the post-mortem team.

Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin saw large-scale violence, in which innocent people lost their lives and property. The police drew a lot of flak for their failure to handle the situation. The opposition political parties slammed the state government. Rahul Gandhi in his statement over Tuticorin violence said: "Tamilians being murdered because they refused to bow down to RSS ideals."

Similarly, the DMK party slammed the state government and alleged that they were bloodthirsty. They also called for a one-day bandh in the entire state, which was supported by Congress and other opposition parties to seek justice for the mourning families.
