The fad of taking selfies has reached such a dangerous level that it is now taking lives. In an attempt to be daring and flaunt it on social media, the young generation keeps on taking selfies at weirdest locations, not caring about their lives. To keep a check on these reckless passengers clicking pictures, the Southern Railways has planned to impose a fine of Rs. 2000. Anyone who will take a selfie from the footboard or in front of trains at railway stations will have to shell out Rs. 2000. There are many youngsters who try to pull off stunts while taking pictures around the railway stations.

Mr. Senthil Vel, manager Coimbatore Railway junction informed a newspaper that an order has been circulated to all station masters and managers under the Southern Railway's Salem Division. The initiative is aimed to cut down on all the train mishaps which have grown recently. The idea of taking selfies has not just restricted itself to youngsters but even older family members, indulging in taking pictures and documenting them as memories or statuses of their travel journeys. In a bid to show off, most of them do not even mind going over the footboard or standing too close to a train at a station. Recently, a woman at Matheran hill station lost her life while clicking pictures.

The trend to be 'adventurous' is rather life threatening and needs to be addressed. Despite warning people, there is no heed paid to it, so now people will have to shell out cash. The Railway police and RPF have been instructed to identify such people and fine them with Rs 2,000.  Anyone found repeating the same offence will have to face an imprisonment of 6 months! The implementation has already begun and on the first day, many people were let off with a warning, since they were not aware of the new rule, as informed by the official. In a way, it is a good move to restrict the practice of taking the so-called adventurous selfies.
