Sultanpur Horror: Patient Whose Leg Was Separated in Accident Left Unattended on Stretcher For Two Hours
Faizabad Divisional Commissioner Manoj Mishra has sought a report from Sultanpur's District Magistrate and other competent health authorities over the incident.
Lucknow, Mar 30: In another horrific incident of medical negligence in Uttar Pradesh, a patient with severed leg was left unattended on stretcher for over two hours at Sultanpur district hospital. What further highlights the apathy of the hospital staff, the seperated leg of the patient was kept between his thighs, rather than storing it in ice.
Due to the unprecedented delay, the condition of the severed leg deteriorated to the extent that a surgery to re-join it with the body turned impossible.
The patient's family was then recommended to take him to Lucknow Trauma Centre. The severed leg was taken along by them in a polythene, said Sultanpur chief medical officer (CMO) CBN Tripathi.
Faizabad Divisional Commissioner Manoj Mishra has sought a report from Sultanpur's District Magistrate and other competent health authorities over the incident.
The Chief Minister's Office has also taken cognizance. While briefing the reporters, the CMO in its statement said the case is being monitored.
The patient, identified as Atul Kumar Pandey, suffered an accident at the Karaundiya Railway station, with his foot being run over by a moving train.
The treatment meted out to him by Sultanpur district hospital authorities comes days after a similar incident was reported from Jhansi's Maharani Laxmi Bai Hospital, where the severed foot of a patient was used as a pillow on his stretcher.
An inquiry which followed led to the suspension of two nurses and two doctors.
