Patna, January 30: A 19-year-old boy has allegedly shot himself during a WhatsApp video call with his girlfriend in Patna, Bihar. The shocking incident took place on Monday when the deceased identified as Akash Kumar alias Bunty, a resident of Saichak apparently committed suicide, with a semi-automatic pistol. He shot himself in the head while chatting with his girlfriend on a live video call, in his bedroom.
According to reports, the boy had failed an exam and was being pressured by family members to end relation with the girl. Bunty took the extreme step after his girlfriend sought time to convince her parents about their marriage. The couple got on a call late Sunday night and it was around 3 am Monday morning, when the incident took place.
The police who have begun the investigation into the matter were shocked beyond belief about the guy pulling the trigger while on a call with a person. According to Hindustan Times report, DSP (Phulwarisharif) Ramakant Prasad was quoted saying, “When we recovered Bunty’s cell phone and checked, we were shocked to discover that he was video chatting with his girlfriend live as he shot himself. His girlfriend also confirmed that they were video chatting and had an argument when Bunty suddenly pulled out a gun and shot himself.”
In the same report, the police confirmed that Bunty's girlfriend did her best to convince him. “She tried her best to convince and pacify him but he took the extreme step and ended his life,” added the DSP. An investigating officer said that on seeing her boyfriend pull out a gun and threaten her about committing suicide, she called up one of Bunty's close relative and asked them to intervene. But it proved too late for anyone to avoid the mishappening as the boy killed himself.
Police have recovered the pistol and a magazine from his bedroom and further investigating about how he got hold of it. While they are looking out for its owner, the youth's parents and kin are mourning his untimely death.
