SpiceJet Plane Veers Off The Runway at Bengaluru Airport, Damages Runway Lights, All Passengers Safe
SpiceJet its statement said that during the landing roll, aircraft veered off to the left & was aligned to the central line by the pilot. It taxied normally to the bay. All the passengers and baggage were deplaned in a normal manner.
New Delhi, March 17: A SpiceJet flight, arriving from Hyderabad veered off the runway at Bengaluru Airport on Friday. The accident resulted in damage of four runway lights at the airport. As per reports, the runway was temporarily shut and at least 10 flights to Kempegowda International Airport were diverted to other cities. The flight SG 1238 was operated with a Q400 aircraft.
The airline in its statement said that during the landing roll, aircraft veered off to the left & was aligned to the central line by the pilot. It taxied normally to the bay. All the passengers and baggage were deplaned in a normal manner.
An airport official was quoted by PTI saying that the plane while taxiing after landing damaged a few runway lights. As the runway was closed from 2247 hours to 2328 hours, at least ten flights were diverted. A SpiceJet spokesperson said in a statement said, “During the landing roll, the aircraft veered off to the left and was aligned to the central line by the pilot. It taxied normally to the bay...However, four-runway lights got damaged”. "All the passengers and baggage were deplaned in a normal manner. There was no damage to the aircraft", the spokesperson added.
On Thursday, SpiceJet cancelled its Mangaluru-Hyderabad flight SG1007 due to a technical issue. SpiceJet authorities made an announcement about a technical snag on the Bombardier Q400 aircraft after which it was cancelled. As a precautionary measure, the aircraft went back to the bay. Reports inform that all 31 passengers on board got off the plane following the incident.
On Thursday, SpiceJet announced that it will shift 22 flights serving seven domestic sectors from Terminal 1 (T1) of the Indira Gandhi International airport to Terminal 2 (T2) with effect from 25th March 2018. All remaining domestic flights will continue to operate from Terminal 1. This means passengers travelling with SpiceJet from Delhi to seven sectors including Ahmedabad, Patna, Pune and Goa will have to board from Terminal 2 of Delhi airport from 25 March onwards.
The shifting of operations is to enable expansion work in T 1 and strengthening of infrastructure. As per reports by PTI, the airline has decided to shift 22 flights serving these seven sectors from T 1 to T 2 while all the remaining domestic flights will continue to operate from T 1. The three other sectors are Kochi, Surat and Gorakhpur.
