Shujaat Bukhari, Editor of Rising Kashmir Shot Dead by Terrorists in Srinagar's Press Colony in Jammu and Kashmir

It must be noted that Shujaat Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000. Bukhari and his SPO have been injured in the attack.

Jammu, June 14: In a shocking incident, senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari - the Editor of Rising Kashmir has been shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir.  According to a recent tweet by ANI, one of Bukhari's Personal Security Officer (PSO) was also shot dead by terrorists in the attack while another PSO has been critically injured in the terrorist attack.

According to reports, Bukhari was attacked by militants in Press Colony,  just outside his office. It must be noted that Shujaat Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the brutal incident and said killing of Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari is an act of cowardice. "It is an attempt to silence the saner voices of Kashmir. He was a courageous and fearless journalist. Extremely shocked & pained. My thoughts and prayers are with his bereaved family", Rajnath said.

Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti said she was shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Shujaat Bukhari. "The scourge of terror has reared its ugly head on the eve of Eid. Strongly condemn this act of mindless violence & pray for his soul to rest in peace. Deepest condolences to his family", Mufti said.

Earlier in the day on Thursday, an Indian Army Jawan named Aurangzeb Khan was abducted by terrorists from Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.  Reports informed that Khan, who was a part of the anti-terror operations, belonged to 44 Rashtriya Rifles and was posted in Shopian.

It must be noted that Khan was a part of the operation that killed terrorist Sameer Tiger earlier. A massive search operation has been launched to look for the jawan.

In another incident, two militants and an Army jawan were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Thursday morning. A jawan too has lost his life in the operation."Two terrorists have been killed in an ongoing operation in Panar forest area of Bandipora district (in north Kashmir)," a defence spokesman said.
