Shoe Hurled at Stage Occupied by Anna Hazare, Devendra Fadnavis and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi: Watch Video
The social activist on Thursday ended his six-day fast at Ramlila Maidan, saying he has been assured by the government that appointments of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the states would be made soon.
New Delhi, March 29: A shoe was hurled at the stage while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed farmers' protest in the national capital. The protest was led by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who has been protesting in Delhi since March 23 for fair crop prices, Lokpal appointment and electoral reforms. As per reports, a man hurled a shoe towards the stage where Hazare, Fadnavis and Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat were present. It is unclear who it was aimed at.
Hazare on Thursday ended his six-day fast at Ramlila Maidan after meeting Fadnavis on Thursday. Hazare said he has been assured by the government that appointments of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the states would be made soon.
Hazare said he was giving the government six months’ time till August to come good on its assurance and warned that his protest will again begin in September if the demands were not met. The 80-year-old anti-corruption activist's demands include the appointment of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the states, and giving better prices to the farmers for their yield, a report by PTI said.
It must be noted that Anna Hazare's 2011 agitation in Delhi had led to the passing of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013, but the centre is yet to appoint a Lokpal.
"They (government) have assured us that they will make the appointments as soon as possible. I will see till August and we will begin again in September. It should be done within a time frame. ((Though Maharashtra) Chief Minister (Devendra) Fadnavis has said it will not even take six months, we will see," Hazare said.
