Mumbai, May 16: In an extremely shocking, and a shameful incident from Mumbai, POCSO Act has recently convicted and sentenced a man from Cuff Parade to 20 years' imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter and forcing her to act in porn films. To add to her woes, when the child decided to go and tell her mother about the incident, she refused to believe, and in fact, beat her up. This made her depressed, and she attempted suicide as well, by drinking phenyl.

According to a Times of India report, the biological father separated with her mother, when she was a year old. She lived with her maternal grandmother until she turned10 years old and later came to stay with her mother after she remarried in 2002. In the report, she narrates, that her step-father for the first time raped her in 2012, and then again in 2013, both time her mother refused to believe her and tortured her for spreading lies about her husband. The victim while in the hospital narrated her ordeal to a hospital nurse, who informed the cops.

In another incident, that was reported a few days back; a businessman was arrested in Kerala for allegedly molesting a minor girl inside a theatre in Malappuram district. The accused was arrested post visuals of a CCTV footage went viral and started being aired on national television. The police said the woman, who is her mother, knew the accused and accompanied her daughter to the theatre at Edappal, was arrested for not reporting the matter. Like the businessman, she will face charges under POCSO Act. The businessman was booked under Section 354 of IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and the POCSO Act.
