New Delhi, May 1: In order to maintain smooth movement of devotees during Shab-e-Barat tonight, the Delhi Police has put heavy security arrangements in place. The Police says it is taking all efforts to prevent stunt biking and facilitate people offering prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. On the night of Shab-e-Barat, Muslims devotees across India and the world offer prayers at mosques.
"We are coordinating with the local police in handling the arrangements in different parts of the city, especially in the south, south-east, the central and the Lutyens Delhi areas," said a senior Delhi Traffic police officer.
According to a PTI report, an officer from the New Delhi district said that they have put pickets in the areas bordering south and central Delhi to monitor bikers. The areas around the India Gate would be out-of-bounds for two wheelers with pickets on the roads to prevent stunt-biking by youngsters, he said. The officer informed that in the past, accidents involving stunt biking took place on Delhi roads as scores of youth took to roads violating traffic rules.
Shab-e-Barat (also known as Laylat-ul-Baraa), or the night of salvation will be celebrated on Tuesday. The festival holds high relevance among Sunni Muslims adhering to the Barelvi, as well as the Deobandi school of thought. Although the festival is largely celebrated in South and South-East Asia, Dr Qadri claims parts of Middle East where the Salafi ideology is yet to penetrate still observes it.
The revered cleric and founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran, Dr Tahir ul-Qadri claims the observance of Shab-e-Barat is one of the authentic practices of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
