New Delhi, May 24: Rohith Vemula's mother Radhika Vemula expressed her grief at the sudden demise of Former Union Minister and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya's son Vaishnav, who died due to a heart attack this week. On her Facebook post, she wrote, "My deepest condolences to Mr Bandaru Dattatreya and family from the bottom of My Heart. As I know the pain when someone lost their son, I hope you will be fine. Sorry for your loss. Jai Bhim."
Dattatreya's name was dragged into Vemula's suicide incident. There had been allegations that the extreme action against Vemula was made at the behest of the then Union labour minister Dattatreya. Also, it was alleged that he wrote a letter to erstwhile Education Minister Smriti Irani, seeking action against the Dalit students calling their acts as anti-national.
According to reports, Rohith Vemula, a PhD scholar at the University of Hyderabad, committed suicide in his hostel room on the college campus on January 17, 2016. The alleged reason behind his extreme step was that he was upset over the disciplinary action taken against him by the varsity on the demand of Dattatreya.
After the significant uproar over Vemula's death, students were found protesting in different cities. Dattatreya was allegedly been called a prime accused in the case of abetment to suicide. However, the probe carried out by the one-man judicial commission under former Allahabad High Court Justice AK Roopanwal gave him a clean chit.
