Jaipur, June 27: The Rajasthan Government's labour department has issued orders for its employees to only wear 'trousers & shirt' while on duty. In a letter issued on June 21,  Labour Department Commissioner Giriraj Singh on June 21 said that few officers who come to work in jeans & t-shirt and other inappropriate clothes create resentment among a section of the staff.

"Some officers/employees wear jeans & t-shirt & "other inappropriate clothes" which is indecent and against the dignity of the office", the letter stated.  Singh further stated that often it is seen that the officials/personnel come wearing jeans and T-shirt or other dress that does not look proper and is against the dignity of the office. "It is expected that all the officials/personnel come to the office wearing trousers and shirt which is more appropriate,” he stated in the circular.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the employees’ association has objected against the dress code saying it is against the democratic norms. The association further added that dress code for government employees cannot be this strict.

Earlier this year in March, the Rajasthan higher education department had issued a notification on the same lines. The notification states the imposition of a strict dress code for the college students of the state from the academic year 2018-19. The move drew widespread protests and was later revoked by the state government.
