New Delhi, June 16: Following the dry spell over the past week, several places in the west are likely to witness rainfall accompanied by thundershower. According to predictions by private weather agency Skymet, places like Alibag, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Nashik, Palghar, Pune, Raigarh, Ratnagiri and Thane during next 2-4 hours.
The India Meteorological Department(IMD) has issued an alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts for Monday and has predicted heavy rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.
Meanwhile, IMD Mumbai has also forecasted heavy rainfall in the Konkan region on June 17. It must be noted that Mumbai too falls under the Konkan belt. IMD officials said that showers could continue on June 18.
Following the onset of the southwest monsoon in Mumbai, the city braced for heavy rainfall along with waterlogged streets and delays in trains and flight services. On June 9, the IMD declared the onset of the monsoon over Mumbai, the adjoining Thane-Konkan areas, Ahmednagar, Parbhani and other parts of Maharashtra.
Earlier, the IMD had informed that rainfall in Maharashtra is likely to be below normal between June 15 and 21 and gradual revival of monsoon is likely between June 22 and 28.
