Chandigarh, April 1: In wake of the bandh called by several Dalit organisations across the state, Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday appealed to protesters to allow mortal remains of Iraq victims to reach their native villages.

The Chief Minister urged the protesting organisations to ensure that mortal remains of the victims, that are expected to arrive in Amritsar tomorrow from Iraq, are allowed to be transported to their native villages without any impediment. The Chief Minister also directed police to provide strict security for the same on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab Government informed that all public transport services across the state will be suspended on April 2, 2018 in wake of the 'bandh' As per reports, several Dalit organisations in the state have called for a bandh against the amendment under the SC/ST Act.

Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana was quoted by ANI saying that about 4000 police personnel along with one company of Rapid Action Force will be deployed tomorrow across the state.  He further added that strict action will be taken against those who indulge in violence.

The state government has announced that all educational institutions across the state will remain closed in wake of the band. Mobile internet services will also be suspended in the state tomorrow in the wake of bandh called by Dalit organisations.
