Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi in a Reply to CM Claims She Is on Mission & Not on Job to Resign
In her prompt reply, Kiran Bedi also asked the CM V. Narayanasamy to join her in her initiative. While on several occasions, both Bedi and Narayanasamy were found locking the horns creating a political uproar.
Mumbai, May 11: In a prompt reply to Puducherry CM V. Narayanasamy, EX IPS Officer and Puducherry Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi said one resigns from a ‘job’, not from a ‘mission’. Her reply was in response to CM Narayanasamy who demanded Bedi's resignation on moral grounds in a Press Conference earlier. CM Narayanasamy's statement has come in view of the Centre approving two cabinet decisions- first to waive off crop loans taken from cooperative banks and second to extend the term of office of chairpersons of seven public sector undertakings of the Congress government, to which she objected.
Bedi said that If she was not on a mission, why would she accompany Raj Nivas team and officials every weekend to rural areas, which need help. She added, " I am on a mission of Prosperous Puducherry, Swacch Puducherry, Water Rich Puducherry, Financially Secure Puducherry, Responsive Puducherry and Skilled Puducherry. Hence, I am paying attention to drains, ponds or rivers or bed dams to bring improvements." as quoted by Deccan Chronicle.
In her reply, she also asked the CM to join her in her initiative about Puducherry's development. On several occasions, both Bedi and Narayanasamy were found locking the horns on several issues like medical admissions and nomination of MLAs to the assembly without the recommendations of CM, leading to the demand of the ruling party Congress, to the Centre to recall her.
The MLA's appointment controversy also went to Madras High Court, where the first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar delivered two separate, but concurring, judgments upholding the nomination made by the Lt. governor Kiran Bedi.
Interestingly EX IPS officer Kiran Bedi considered to be the first governor of India who takes public grievance meetings at her official residence Raj Nivas daily. The idea to hold such meetings is to be in touch with common people and provide them with a helping hand.
