January 25 is celebrated as National Voters’ Day or Rshtriya Matdata Diwas. The main significance to celebrate the day is to encourage and enroll the new voters to take part in the nation’s political process. As it has been observed that today's youth who attained the age of 18 years (minimum age for voting in India) are showing less interest in the process of enrollment in the electoral rolls. The Election commission of India is a taking enthusiastic actions and initiatives to mark out all the eligible candidates who will be attaining the age of 18 years as of January 1 of every year. This pledge is likely to offer and bring ahead the youth’s empowerment, pride and motivate them. The 8th national voters’ Day will be celebrated with full of zest throughout the nation.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni told reports that the new voters will be provided with the badge with logo "Proud to be a voter - Ready to vote". Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted on National Voters' day 2018.
It is the right to vote that shows the equal status to all the citizens of the country. To increase more peoples’ participation in electoral process the Electoral Commission of India initiates and adopts a program named Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation strategy in 2009 (SVEEP) to educate the citizens, electors and voters about the process through different modes and media.
Recently released and internationally acclaimed movie Newton is so idealistic example to portray the difficulties that are faced by the electoral board and also enhances to bring up the new voters to take initiative in voting process. It brought an upright example in front of the people to publicize the actual problems faced and know the importance of voting in a democratic country like India. We hope the initiatives will attract the youth of India to come out and be a part of the electoral process.
