The rate cut over the past six days came in the backdrop of oil companies raising the fuel rates by upto Rs 9-10 per litre through consecutive hikes for 16 days. The price increment, analysts claim, was necessitated due to the rising crude oil prices, combined with the domestic rate kept unchanged for 17 days prior to the Karnataka assembly elections.
