New Delhi, June 11: Petrol prices in metro cities came down by as much as 20 paise on Monday, whereas, the rate of diesel has been slashed by upto 15 paise. This marks the 13th consecutive cut in fuel prices since May 29. With the latest reductions, the price of petrol over the past fortnight has come down by Rs 1.93, whereas, diesel plunged by Rs 1.48.

Per litre of petrol in Mumbai, on June 11, will cost Rs 84.41, down from Rs 84.61 on Sunday. Diesel dipped from Rs 72.51 to Rs 72.35 in the city. In Delhi, petrol plummeted from Rs 76.78 yesterday to Rs 76.58 today.

In Chennai and Kolkata, per litre of petrol would be charged at Rs 79.25 and Rs 79.48, respectively. Diesel in the two cities will be charged at Rs 70.50 and Rs 71.73, respectively. The rates were scheduled to come into effect from 6am on June 11.

The spree of decrement in fuel prices came after a hike on 16 straight days from May 13 to May 28. During the period, petrol price came up by Rs 10-11 per litre, where diesel rate surged by Rs 7-8.

The government is reportedly mulling over taking long-term policy measures towards keeping the fuel prices in check. While bringing petrol and diesel under GST are being mooted as potential solutions, a section of analysts have recommended a reduction in the central taxes.
