Petrol & Diesel Prices in India Continue to Break Record! Petrol at 55-Month High, Diesel Costliest Ever: Check Fuel Rates in Metros
According to details available on Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website, the state-owned oil firms raised petrol rates by 13 paise per litre each in Delhi.
Mumbai, April 21: Fuel prices in India hit an all-time high on Saturday with Petrol and diesel prices surging to a new level. Petrol price surged to a new 55-month high as it touched a high of Rs. 74.21 a litre in New Delhi, while diesel prices hit an all-time high of Rs. 65.46. According to details available on Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website, the state-owned oil firms raised petrol rates by 13 paise per litre each in Delhi.
On Saturday, petrol in New Delhi was priced at Rs 74.21 per litre which was up by 13 paisa compared to previous day prices of Rs 74.08 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol price in Kolkataon Saturday was at Rs 76.91 per litre. In Kolkata, Rs 77 per litre mark was last witnessed in May 2012. In Mumbai, Petrol remained four-year high since start of 2018 at Rs 82.06 per litre against its previous day prices of Rs 81.93 per litre.

Fuel prices in India have been changing from June 15, 2017. Earlier, the prices used to change every two weeks. This move is aimed to effectively understand the alterations in day by day diesel price in India. The oil companies like Hindustan Petroleum Corp Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corp (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corp Limited (BPCL) decide the final retail petrol price by taking into consideration the international crude basket, plus states’ Value Added Tax (VAT) and the government's excise duty.
To recall, the last time when petrol prices surged to this level was in September 2013, when it had soared to Rs. 76.06. The petrol price on Saturday costs Rs. 74.21 in Delhi, Rs. 76.91 in Kolkata, Rs. 82.06 in Mumbai and Rs. 76.99 in Chennai, as per the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website.
