New Delhi, May 29: Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for a 16th consecutive day on Tuesday, taking the fuel rate to a new record-level in Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of the nation. The spree of hike continues despite a slump being recorded in the international crude oil rate over the past seven days.
The brent crude oil, which peaked at $84.47 on May 14, has lost steam with its rate plunging to $75.36 in the global market. The price correction came shortly after Saudi Arabia and Russia, the two leading producers, agreed to increase their outputs by 1 million barrel per day.

Reacting the unprecedented increment in fuel prices by the state-owned oil corporations, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday said a long-term policy is being designed to keep the fuel prices under check. Transport Nitin Gadkari, while speaking at an event yesterday, said a policy-decision is required to slash the petrol and diesel rates. "It is difficult to further subsidise oil," he was reported as saying.
