The spree of hike in petrol and diesel prices were triggered following a peak in the international crude oil rate. The brent crude oil jumped to $84.4 on May 14 -- crossing the $80-benchmark for the first-time ever since November 2014. The price rise was primarily caused to the sanctions re-imposed by the US against Iran and Venezuela, two among the handful of oil exporting nations.
