New Delhi, April 24: Fuel prices have been increased for the sixth consecutive day across the country. Diesel price touch an all-time high of Rs 65.93, whereas petrol is sold at Rs 74.63 in New Delhi, highest since September 2013. Currently, petrol and diesel prices across the country are revised by state-run oil marketing companies on a daily basis, effective 6 am.

Petrol becomes 13 paise dearer in New Delhi and Mumbai, 12 paise in Kolkata and 14 paise in Chennai. Similarly there is an increasing trend in price of diesel across the metro cities. In New Delhi and Kolkata price of diesel is increased by 18 paise, whereas in Mumbai and Chennai diesel becomes 19 paise costlier in comparison to yesterday’s prices.
The prices are broadly determined by international crude oil and rupee-dollar forex rates. With Tuesday's hike, petrol prices are up Rs. 1.06-1.14 per litre across the four metros so far this month. Diesel prices have been raised by Rs. 1.53-1.63 per litre during this period. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley excise duty nine times between November 2014 and January 2017. The central government had cut excise duty by Rs. 2 per litre in October 2017.
