According to a PTI report, Pathankot SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said, "We are on alert and the matter is being investigated. A local told us that he gave lift to two youths. The local felt that the duo could be terror suspects as they were apparently carrying weapons and got down at a place nearby Kathua.”
In wake of the recent revelations by locals, two people in Army uniforms carrying weapons were seen on Wednesday night. Taking no chances, the security cover was increased, and investigations have begun. Reports inform that the two terrorists reportedly even hijacked a Maruti Suzuki Alto but eventually panicked and left the car in the middle of a road.
Alert was sounded in three border police districts — Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Batala. Reports inform that the IG (Border), Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, confirmed the carjacking and added that a massive hunt had been launched after the questioning of Gujjar Maskin Ali who is the owner of the car.
A search operation has also been launched since the incident happened close to the IAF base. To recall, the IAF base had previously been attacked by terrorists on January 2 of 2016. Seven security personnel deployed at the airbase - which is part of the Western Air Command - were martyred.
