The incident took place when they, along with other family members were unwrapping gifts on Friday. This is when one of them exploded.  The explosion was reportedly caused due to crude bomb.

As per details by the victim’s family members, the couple Soumya Sekhar Sahu and Reema Sahu got married on February 18, 2018. The packet was reportedly presented to the couple by an unidentified guest during their reception held on February 21, 2018. The bomb exploded when they opened the gift at their house. The family members told Odisha-based television channel that someone might have kept the explosives in the gift packet triggering the explosion.  The Patnagarh SDPO said that the Bolangir police are investigating the matter.
