New Delhi, October 25: Even as Diwali is a few days away, firecracker manufacturers are trying to figure out what "green firecrackers" are. Several manufacturers and vendors have said that there was no such thing as green or eco-friendly firecrackers. Meanwhile, police officials have also said that they do not have a system to measure the decibel levels of the firecrackers or the smoke they emit to ensure only green firecrackers are being used. "It will be a difficult task to monitor whether shopkeepers are following guidelines since crackers are sold in bulk during Diwali. Reeling under confusion, crackers manufacturers in Tamil Nadu have decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against its order permitting only green crackers. The Tamil Nadu Fireworks and Amorces Manufacturers Association has said that there was no such thing as eco-friendly crackers, indicating that it would be difficult to produce green crackers. The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to impose a complete ban on firecrackers while pronouncing its verdict on a ban on manufacture and sale of firecrackers across India. The top Court banned the online sale of firecrackers and also put a stay on the e-commerce portals from selling firecrackers. A bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan pronounced the judgment and said there will be no complete ban in firecrackers.
