Thiruvananthapuram, May 22: Dr Kafeel Khan, who was charged for the death of infants at the BRD Medical college in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh and was later granted bail by the Allahabad High Court, has offered and wishes to help the patients in Nipah virus hit state Kerela. Dr Kafeel, in a Facebook post has offered to serve at Kozhikode district in the wake of Nipah virus outbreak that has already claimed 11 lives.
Dr Khan said that he wishes to serve at Calicut Medical College Hospital. The Gorakhpur hospital, a paediatrician from Gorakhpur, reached out to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through Facebook and requested the Kerela Chief Minister to allow him 'to save innocent lives'. Dr Khan also praised and mentioned the name of sister Lini, the nurse who succumbed to the infection on Monday morning after treating and serving infected patients.
Kerela Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office has responded to Dr Kafeel's request and in a response on Facebook has "welcomed their service". The post on Facebook has said that it welcomes the medical professionals who have expressed interest to work in the affected areas of Kozhikode.
Dr Kafeel Khan's request to serve the Nipah infected Kozhikode has garnered huge appreciation on social media. A few hours back, talking to a news channel and responding to the question whether this act of him offering to help and serve in the state of Kerela will make him a political pawn, he simply said that, "They (Kerela and UP CM) are big people, I only want to serve the people" was his reply.
Meanwhile, the health department of Kerela has been put on high alert after Nipah virus has caused more than 11 deaths and several are infected in Kozhikode district of Kerela.
