Mumbai, May 23: A newborn girl child was thrown into a heap of garbage mercilessly by her unknown mother in a village of Palghar, just about 109 kilometres from Mumbai. Luckily the baby was found alive after the two men saw the abandoned newborn crying on Monday night. According to a Times of India new report, the two men named Sanjay Meher and Kundan Churi-residents of Vadrai village in Palghar were returning to home from work when they heard the baby was crying.
Stunningly, the umbilical cord was found intact on the baby, which proved that the newborn was thrown immediately after her birth. Such growing instances of a girl child being thrown away by their family members only reflect the failure of the present government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padao campaign.
The government of India is doing everything possible to generate awareness through advertisement campaigns like Beti Bachao, Beti Padao and also introducing various schemes intended for girls welfare. The aim behind this is to address the stigma against the girl child. However, such incidents prove that the birth of girlchild is still considered to be a curse by many even today.
The two men were god-sent and immediately rescued the newborn who was about to be swept into the drain, where she was kept. Immediately, one of them wrapped the baby in his shirt and rushed her to the nearby primary health centre, said the police.
The men also informed the entire incident to the Kelwe police. Even as the baby’s health was deteriorating, she was later shifted to Dr. Dhawale Charitable Hospital at Palghar. Meanwhile, the Assistant police inspector Siddhawa Jayabhave reached the hospital and agreed to bear the newborn’s medical expenses.
According to doctors, the child’s condition is improving. The police have started a search operation to find who are the parents of the abandoned newborn. Also, the police have announced a cash reward to whoever provides the information about the whereabouts of the mother, said the officer. The police are also getting the details from all the maternity hospitals in Palghar to find out which lady delivered a girl child recently.
