24th January is celebrated as National Girl Child Day every year in India. The celebrations took place to offer added support and new opportunities to the girls and to propagate the concept of gender equality in the nation. Every girl child in the country is as important as their male counterparts in shaping our future. To boost and cherish the day, many eminent personalities took to the social media forum for expressing their thoughts and views. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag, Minister of Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee and many more tweeted to wish and enrich the act more vigorously.

They took the platform to celebrate and take initiative to upsurge awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by girl children in the society like inequality in education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, protection, honour, child marriage and so many.

This day marks to diminish the squid child sex ratio in the nation and change the approach towards the girl child. It is very essential for girls to get full potential, safe environment and also should be made aware of their legal rights. On another fragment,  it has been noted that Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister for Education, Health and Finance (Assam) tweeted with a message on National Girl Child Day with “I am truly blessed to have a daughter whom I adore & love.”

Multiple events are seen to be structured all across the country to celebrate and to uplift girl’s position in society on this day. The government of India organizes a big campaign to create awareness among the people and promote the girl’s position in the Indian society. Let’s join hands together to empower the girl.
