Nagpur Metro Launch Today, To Be Open For Public From March 8: Routes, Stations And All You Need To Know
The Nagpur Metro Rail Project will consist of 41.700 Km metro corridor, 40 stations and 2 depots and is believed to be the greenest metro in the country with 65 per cent of its electricity consumption from solar energy.
Nagpur, March 7: With an aim to provide high-speed connectivity, the 13.5-kilometre phase of the Nagpur Metro is all set to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday through video-conferencing. Commuters will be able to enjoy free rides on the metro on its first day of operation on March 8. The Nagpur Metro Rail Project will consist of 41.700 Km metro corridor, 40 stations and 2 depots. The entire stretch will be divided into 2 alignments or corridors- Alignment 1 North – South Corridor and the Alignment 2 East – West Corridor.
According to details by Maharashtra Metro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit the route, comprising five stations from Khapri to Sitabuldi, will be opened for passengers on March 8. Reports inform that the commercial run of the mrtro rail will begin at 8 am on March 8 on Sitabuldi to Khapri route. For this, the metro has also released metro mobility cards. The metro rail service is committed to provide commuters of the city a safe, world-class, user-friendly and easily accessible travel. - The Nagpur Metro network, work on which started in June, 2015, consists of two corridors with a total length of 38 kilometres.
- The estimated completion cost of the metro project is Rs 8680 Crore.
- The Nagpur Metro will be the greenest metro in the country with 65 per cent of its electricity consumption from solar energy.
- The two corridors will have 38 stations, two depots and a fleet of 69 metro cars, including a special "nari shakti" women's coach in each train.
- The route, comprising five stations from Khapri to Sitabuldi, will be opened for passengers on March 8.
- Rides on metro on its first day of operation on Friday will be free for commuters.
- Nagpur Metro had earned Rs. 132.51 crore from stamp duty and Rs. 6.87 crore from Transfer of Development rights even before the start of passenger operations.
- NMRCL Is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for the smooth implementation and operations of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project. It is a joint venture of Government of India & Government of Maharashtra, with 50:50 equity. NMRCL is responsible for the successful and timely completion of the project & its operations subsequently.

The two corridors will have 38 stations, two depots and a fleet of 69 metro cars, including a special "nari shakti" women's coach in each train. The metro service would run 19 hours each day beginning from 05:00 am to 00:00 midnight. The project is believed to generate an employment for nearly 1700 people across Nagpur. According to details on the official Nagpur Metro website, Feeder Services such as Shuttle Buses, Battery Operated Vehicles, Pedestrian Facilities & Bicycles sharing schemes have been included in the project to provide first & last mile connectivity. There will be 19 Feeder routes covering all stations & a total distance of around 160 Km. Feeder Services will enhance the accessibility of the Metro for all classes of commuters, to / fro homes & offices.
