Mumbai Rains: Monsoon Likely to Arrive in Maharashtra Tomorrow, IMD Predicts Intense Rainfall Till June 11
The IMD in its release has also said that intense rainfall activity is expected over Maharashtra Coast starting from 7 June, 2018.
Mumbai, June 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a press release has mentioned that Mumbai will see the arrival of monsoon from June 8 onwards. The IMD in its release has also said that intense rainfall activity is expected over Maharashtra Coast starting from 7 June, 2018. The report makes it clear that widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy spells are likely to begin over South Konkan and Goa from tomorrow onwards.
The rainfall is expected to be at its highest and maximum from between 9 to 11 June. The report mentions the possibility of extremely heavy spells in the three days mentioned above.
The rainfall is expected to be accompanied with gusty winds and at many places thundershowers will also strike. Raigad district will see the maximum thundershowers and Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri district will see heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Mumbai had also seen heavy pre-monsoon showers on Monday evening. The incessant rains that struck the city on Monday evening created a traffic snarl and water logging in many areas. Skymet Weather on Tuesday had warned Mumbai of worst rain spell since 26 July 2005 downpour.
The preparedness of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) came under scanner on Monday after the city was splashed with heavy rains in the evening. However, the BMC insisted that the municipal body is ready for dealing with monsoon created issues in Mumbai and that activities in the maximum city will not get hampered due to excessive rains. If the IMD report on rains hold true, Mumbaikars will have to be ready to face intense rainfall for the coming days.
