Mumbai, June 25:  Monsoon picked momentum in Mumbai as heavy rains lashed the city since Sunday night leading to a chaotic Monday morning for commuters. Heavy showers in the city have, so far, claimed three lives in rain-related incidences in several parts. Incessant rains have caused water-logging at several places which have slowed the movement of suburban trains, causing inconvenience to office-goers.

Amid the heavy rainfall in the city, the Mumbai Police is all set and is geared up to help Mumbaikars during the harrowing time. In its tweet, the Mumbai Police said, "The showers are heavy but so is our ‘bandobast’ on the streets to ‘be there’ for Mumbaikars. We are #AlwaysUpForDuty to help you reach your destination with a little care & caution from you during your journey".

In a recent incident, a 15-year-old boy was killed and his parents were injured after a wall collapsed on their house at Wadol village in Ambernath taluka of Thane on Monday.

According to private weather agency Skymet Weather, rains in Mumbai have crossed the 200 mm mark in 24 hours. "In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday, Santa Cruz recorded 231 mm of rains. Expect showers to be as intense today as well", it tweeted.

The IMD has predicted heavy-to-very heavy rain in the city in the next 24 to 48 hours. ”These heavy showers are due to a cyclonic circulation over north Konkan and adjoining south Gujarat and another circulation in the Bay of Bengal. We expect the rain activity to increase in the coming week, with scattered heavy to very heavy rain on June 27 and 28 in parts of north Konkan, including Mumbai,” an IMD official said.
