Mumbai: Pali Hill, Bandra’s New Waste to Biogas Power Plant to Lit Up Street Lights and Save BMC’s Rs 3 Lakh Annually

The waste to biogas power plant will be commissioned from Sunday onwards. The plant will not only lit up the street lights but will also help to save Rs 3 lakh annually of BMC, it spends on garbage transportation.

Mumbai, May 5: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) adopting all possibles ways to encourage societies and individual families to compost waste, in order to reduce the burden on dumping grounds which has already exceeded its maximum limit. In Mumbai's one of the posh area 'Pali Hill' the residents association have come up with waste to energy plant, creating it garbage free area. The new waste biogas plant will convert the garbage collected from local buildings nearby, and turn it into a biogas and power the street lights over there.

Ashish Shelar, the legislator of the area shared his happiness over the waste to biogas power project which will be commissioned this Sunday. In his tweet, he remarked the plant will not only lit up the street lights but also helps to save Rs 3 lakh annually of BMC which it spends on garbage transportation.

To set up the waste to energy plant funds from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been raised, MLA Shelar tweet specifies.

The Pali Hill Residential Association are the real heroes to come up with the great initiative. According to news reports, the project site is at Pali Hill Water Reservoir. “One of the biggest challenges for us was getting land even though the plant required only 100 sq. metre area,” PHRA secretary Madhu Poplai was quoted as saying.

Poplai also further mentioned that the technology used for the project is the same as the one in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency of Varanasi.
