The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced an app where Mumbaikars can report potholes. Citizens can now register complaints to authorities using MCGM 24×7 App. To use the app one has to log in before viewing it. However, when we tried to use the app, it did not send an OTP even after multiple attempts to complete the registration process.
The corporation has also introduced a list of WhatsApp numbers of its road engineers across 24 wards where people can submit complaints of shoddy roads. You can click pictures of the potholes in the are and send the photos to the WhatsApp numbers. The practice has been in place for the past two years after a Bombay High Court directive. In 2015, the court had directed the BMC to make phone numbers of road engineers public while hearing a suo motu public interest litigation on the condition of roads in the city.
Citizens can also file complaints on their toll-free number – 1800221293. The helpline will remain functional 24×7. Once you call, the operator takes down details and assigns a complaint number. The concerned official will be then notified about the issue. While the status of the complaint will not be notified quickly, one can call the number again on the for an update.
One can also make complaints on the MCGM website. Meanwhile, BMC said that they will repair potholes with a cold-mix material from this year. They will manufacture the material in collaboration with a German firm in its plant at Worli. People can also call the Disaster Control Room on 1916 to lodge complaints. With the complaints being documented, seniors will be able to check the update of progress. People can submit exact location on the app through GPS.
