Skymet Weather has warned that Mumbai could see worse in the next few days as far as weather in general and rains in particular is concerned.
The incessant rains that hit Mumbai on Monday evening leading to a traffic scare and delayed flights, may brace the city in the coming days as well. Skymet Weather has warned that Mumbai could see worse in the next few days as far as weather in general and rains in particular is concerned.
The weather watch agency has predicted heavy to very heavy rains from June 6 to 12. The warning also adds that the rain spell could be worse since the 26 July 2005 downpour which almost washed away the city. Mumbai had received a record rainfall of 900mm on that day resulting in water logging and loss of lives and property with power cuts in areas for as long as a week.
The Skymet Weather in an article put on their website has said that going by the present system prevailing in the city, it is expected that Mumbai will get heavy rains on Tuesday and coming days of the week as well.
The report added that the intensity of the rains would be on the rise over Mumbai and by June 8, a significant increase in the rains would lead to very heavy spells of rainfall in the maximum city. It has warned that the heavy downpour may lead to flash floods leading to chaos in the city. Hence, people are advised to take adequate measure and precautions so as to avoid getting in trouble owing to getting stuck in areas prone to water logging.
On Monday evening, after the sudden shower, there were reports of water logging and flights delayed as well as Mumbai locals running late especially on the Harbour line. Traffic was adversely hit and the day being a busy Monday only added to the woes of the commuters.
