Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express Gets a Makeover With Aircraft-Like Interiors Under ‘Operation Swarn’: See Pics

The latest makeover comes weeks after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express had got new coaches. It was christened 'Anubhuti’ and comes with aircraft-like interiors.

New Delhi, February 15: As part of ‘Operation Swarn’ project, the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express has been refurbished with aircraft-like interiors. The new coaches are being introduced in passenger trains to improve aesthetics and comfort levels. What's good news for the passengers is that all these additional features come with no hike in fares. This comes weeks after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express had got new coaches. It was christened 'Anubhuti’ and comes with aircraft-like interiors.

The Western Railways took to microblogging site Twitter and said, "After introducing refurbished coaches in Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express, #WR has introduced more comfortable & elegant coaches with superior aesthetics in Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express from 6th February, 2018 under #ProjectSwarn . Rest of the rakes likely to be done by March, 18”.

Ravinder Bhakar, chief spokesperson of Western Railway (WR) said, "In a bid to enhance the travelling experience and riding comfort of its passengers, we have refurbished the Rajdhani Express”. As part of Skill India initiative, Ministry of Railways on Tuesday said that it is targeting to train 30 thousand apprentices in its 16 zonal units and seven production units.

The new makeover includes the following:

  1. The 12951/52 Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express train has several features such as vinyl wrapped anti-graffiti interiors, new paint scheme, LED lighting and better berths in all classes.
  2. The toilets have been made modular with toilet paper dispensers, better wash basins, branded bath fittings, odour control systems and good quality soap dispensers.
  3. Toilet occupancy indicators have also been added at the end of each coach.
  4. Other features are premium quality mirrors and improved dustbins, seating area has been made squeaky clean.
  5. New design curtains have been provided in the First AC coaches
  6. Digital watches in the cabins of First AC coaches indicating temperature and humidity as well, all information related to safety of passengers and services available on board has been put on a single notice board for the convenience of the passengers and lots more.

Earlier, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had said that India could spend $12 bn to upgrade the Signalling System on entire Indian Railways network in next 6 years to boost safety & speed. He further stated that Railways is set to take a quantum leap in electrification and is set to be the world's first to be 100% electrical.  Taking about the Bullet train project, Goyal said that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project will be a stimulus for India's manufacturing & construction sector, creating new job opportunities.
