Mumbai, January 3: Fourteen months after allegedly murdering his 21-year-old wife, and after dumping her body on the Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway in Vasai, Mahaboor Shaikh was arrested from Thane railway station on Wednesday after police got a tip-off.

In 2018, Shaikh moved to Nalasopara along with his two wives. Both these wives used to frequently fight with each other. Fed up with their constant bickering, Shaikh decided to strangle his second wife Polly. With the help of a gunny bag, he disposed of the body at a place, where the foul smell went undetected for five months as in the same place poultry waste is also dumped. The murder came to light in March 2019, by a rag picker who found skeleton inside a gunny bag. Even though Shaikh had dressed his wife's dead body in men's clothes in order to mislead the police, the latter, however, found out that the body belonged to a young woman after DNA testing and other evidence found from the site. The accused was booked under IPC and it was also found that his first wife had left him after he murdered Polly and she had no hand in the crime.
