Poonch, April 25: Hours after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti approved death penalty to child rapists, another shocking incident surfaced from the border area of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The police registered a case of alleged rape on Tuesday.
According to a report published in the Indian Express, the police has refused to comment on the incident, but according to sources the girl has named two people aged 24 and 27. The girls reportedly kidnapped from the school in Jhalas by the accused. They took her to an isolated place and committed rape on her. However the police have not arrested anybody so far.
According to the report, the girl was taken to the hospital where medical examination was conducted. She will be produced in court for getting her statement recorded. Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir cabinet approved two ordinances for tightening noose around child rapist. The ordinances provide death penalty for raping a minor up to 12 years, whereas in case of committing rape of girls between 13-16 years, the cabinet approved a sentence of 20 years to life. The investigation of such cases will be conducted by woman polices officers.
The state government’s decision to approve death sentence to child rapists came days after the centre government amended Protection of Child and Sexual Offences (POCSO) act giving death sentence for the similar offence. These amendments came after the Kathua rape case sent shock waves across the country, where eight-year-old girl was raped by six person.
